  • Date: 09 Feb 2026

Dr. Talal Abu-Ghazaleh submitted a set of proposals to the Jordanian government following its announcement that it is studying a plan to suspend work at public sector institutions for three days a week, similar to measures adopted by some countries.

The proposals included adopting a six-day workweek for all sectors without exception, with Friday as the only weekly day off.

He also called for the cancellation of the judicial recess, the restructuring of the summer school holiday to be considered an academic term, and the elimination of non-essential and unnecessary leave, limiting holidays to national and religious occasions only.

Dr. Abu-Ghazaleh stressed in his proposal that Jordan needs to raise productivity levels, noting that human nature requires continuity in work and giving. He emphasized that productivity represents the fundamental pillar of Jordan’s gross national product.
