We are now living through a historic transformation. The traditional reliance on commodity based wealth is being replaced by the ability to convert human talent and data into valuable economic output. This shift is decisive for the Global South, as the contest for power is no longer about the control of oil fields, but about the mastery of human/AI hybrid talent.

Today, we face a new form of colonization that is intellectual in nature. The creative outputs and data of emerging populations are being harvested to fuel advanced AI systems owned by a few technological hegemons. Unless we build digital sovereignty and protect intellectual property, the Global South risks becoming a consumer of foreign intelligence rather than a creator of its own destiny.

Since 1995, when I had the privilege of chairing the first United Nations international conference on educational development, I began a profound journey of reflection on the future of education. That experience led me to question whether the traditional educational model would remain capable of serving future generations in a world undergoing unprecedented transformation.

It is from this vision that I formed Talal Abu‑Ghazaleh Global Digital Polytechnic, not merely as an educational institution, but as a strategic response to the challenges of intellectual colonization. This institution is designed to empower students with the skills to transform raw human potential into specialized technological expertise. It is a place where education is not about hardware or software alone, but about cultivating leaders who can master the interplay between human creativity and machine intelligence.
My vision for this Polytechnic is deeply personal. I have long believed that education must evolve from rote learning into skills empowerment. The Polytechnic embodies this belief by offering digital curricula that prepare students to build the pipelines of knowledge that will define the next decade. It is a model that moves beyond technology transfer and equips learners to become creators of intellectual assets, not just users of imported tools or rote memorizers.

For me, this initiative is part of a broader call to a renaissance rooted in knowledge, creativity, and innovation. The nations that succeed will be those that view their populations as reservoirs of intelligence and that build the institutional frameworks necessary to harness the immense power of the digital age. This Polytechnic is my humble contribution to this vision, where the youth of the Arab world, the Global South and in the world at large, can prepare themselves to lead in a multipolar world dominated by technology.

Digital skills are the backbone of this new economy, and it is my wish that every learner be equipped with them to harness AI and make a positive difference to this changing world.
